How to create a Budget

First, you’ll define the budget type. The budget type is the period of active spending in the budget.

  1. Choose a budget type. Budgets can be one-time or recurring.

    1. Recurring budgets restart automatically every month or every quarter.

    2. One-time budgets have a custom start and end date and do not restart automatically at the end of the period

  2. Define dates.

    1. If you choose to create a recurring budget, monthly or quarterly, you’ll have to specify a start date and the number of intervals the budget will automatically restart for.

    2. If you create a one-time budget, you’ll have to specify a start date and an end date. These don’t need to match calendar months or quarters.

  3. Budget name: give your budget a name to easily identify it at a later stage.

  4. Budget amount: enter your Budget for each period.

    1. If you create a recurring budget, you have to enter an amount for each interval. Depending on what you selected, the amount will be set for each month or each quarter.

    2. If you selected the one-time Budget, you only have to enter one amount for the set time period.

  5. Auto assign rules (optional): Define who can spend the budget. All the generated expenses will be allocated to this budget. This includes card transactions and invoices. You can select:

    1. Users

    2. Teams

    3. Cards

    4. Cost Carriers

    5. Cost Centers

    6. Expense Accounts

    7. Suppliers

  6. Budget Holder (optional): You can select a user who can monitor the budget along with all Admins, who can view every budget by default. The budget holder can have any role in the Moss platform and can see the budget status, receive notifications and view the transactions assigned to the budget.

  7. Description: Additionally, you can add a note to describe the purpose of the budget.

  8. Click "Create budget" and get back in control!

Pro tips:

  • You can edit any of your budget information after the budget’s creation.

  • Budgets can also be created for the past, and all transactions the selected spenders made will be automatically assigned to them.
