Who can create a Budget

To create a budget, you have to be an Admin in Moss.

How to create a Budget

Create a Budget

1. Login to Moss

2. Navigate to "Budgets"

3. Click "+ Add budget"

4. Select “Create budgets manually”

Set the budget parameters

5. First, you’ll choose the budget type. The budget type is the period of active spending in the budget.

  • Recurring budgets restart automatically at the beginning of each period: 4-weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual.

  • One-time budgets have a custom start and end date and do not restart automatically at the end of the period

6. Define dates.

  • If you choose to create a recurring budget, you’ll have to specify a start date and the number of intervals the budget will automatically restart for.

  • If you create a one-time budget, you’ll have to specify a start date and an end date. These don’t need to match calendar months or quarters.

7. Select whether budget calculations are done including VAT (Gross amounts) or excluding VAT (Net amounts)

8. Define if the budget values should be visible to all employees or to the budget managers only.

9. Click “Continue”

Enter the budget details

10. Budget name: give your budget a name to easily identify it at a later stage.

11. Budget Managers (optional): You can select one or more users who can monitor the budget along with all Admins and accountants, who can view every budget by default. Budget managers can have any role in the Moss platform and can see the budget status, receive notifications, and view the transactions assigned to the budget.

12. Auto assign rules (optional): Expenses and Purchases that match the auto-assign rules will be automatically allocated to this budget. You can select:

  • Users

  • Teams

  • Cards

  • Cost Carriers

  • Cost Centers

  • Expense Accounts

  • Suppliers

13. Description: Additionally, you can add a note to describe the purpose of the budget.

14. Budget amount: enter your Budget for each period.

  • If you create a recurring budget, you have to enter an amount for each interval. You can also copy the same amount to all periods by clicking ”Paste” when the tooltip is shown on an amount field.

  • If you selected the one-time Budget, you only have to enter one amount for the set time period.

15. Click "Create budget" and get back in control!

Pro tips:

  • You can edit any of your budget information after the budget’s creation.

  • Budgets can also be created for the past, and all transactions the selected spenders made will be automatically assigned to them.
