This is the second article in our Microsoft Dynamics Business Central Guide (MS BC), which explains how to successfully connect Moss and MS BC.
Before you start connecting Moss and MS BC, please ensure that you meet all the requirements and have the necessary data ready—these topics are covered in the first article in the MS BC Guide.
Connect Moss with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
You can take a look at the video on how to both systems or follow the steps below.
1. Open Moss and navigate to “Settings” > “Accounting”
2. Click on “Setup Accounting”
3. You’ll be asked whether you’re responsible for accounting and have access to all necessary bookkeeping functions in your company.
If you do, please proceed with the setup. If not, please assign this task to the appropriate person and invite them to Moss if they haven’t joined yet.
4. Select Microsoft Dynamics Business Central as your accounting software from the list and press “Continue”
5. Requirements
The requirements that you need to connect Moss will be displayed on the screen. Please make sure that you meet these requirements and tick them of to continue. In this article you can read more about how to ensure that you have those permissions.
ℹ️ The user connecting MS BC does not need to have both permissions (BC super rights and Azure administrator rights). Only an active BC license is required. If the user connecting the API does not have administrator rights in the Azure cloud, an Azure administrator must approve the connection before you can continue setting this up. The request to approve is sent with the first connection attempt. You have to check both boxes in any case to continue setup.
6. Login to Microsoft
You will be forwarded to Microsoft. Login to your Microsoft account. Once you have done so, you will be automatically forwarded back to Moss.
You might be asked to approve our API or forward the request for approval to your Global Azure administrator. If you are Azure administrator, you can approve the API yourself.
7. Select the entity
In the next step you are asked to select the entity you want to synchronise with your Moss account.
With click on “Sync and continue” we will import your Chart of Accounts, Vendor accounts and VAT codes from your Business Central Entity.
In the Background we install an extension in Business Central to enhance the functionality of our integration. See here for additional technical details. You do not need to do anything yourself. The installation and setup is fully automated in Business Central once the API is connected.
8. Enter your balance movement accounts
Select a Moss balance account and a payment journal.

Click “Continue” to continue the setup.
9. Supplier settings
Select your default supplier account.
Enable Supplier accounting for card transactions if you want to post transactions against the respective merchant’s suppliers. You can toggle the option off if you want to post all card transactions against one single Moss Default Supplier.
Click on “Continue”
10. Accounting dimensions
Select which tracking categories you want to map to the Moss dimensions.
11. Overview of your current settings
An overview of your current settings, that you have just set up, will be shown to you. Make sure that everything is in order and then click on “Continue”.
Note: All those settings can also be changed at a later point.
12. Chart of Accounts
You will see all the imported chart of accounts.
You can mark accounts inactive if you don’t need them in Moss context by selecting the accounts, click “Edit” > “Status” and select “Inactive”. You can always get back to these settings and re-activate accounts.
Click on “Continue”
13. Suppliers
You will see all the imported suppliers.
You can mark suppliers inactive if you don’t need them for Moss. You can always get back to these settings and re-activate accounts.
Moss synchronises these supplier fields in both directions:
Supplier Name
Supplier account
VAT ID
Company address (if available)
14. VAT rates
You will see a list of all the imported VAR codes
You can mark VAT codes inactive if you don’t need them in Moss (to code purchases against them).
15. Cost center
You will see a list of all your imported cost centers. You can mark those inactive which you don’t need in Moss
16. Cost carrier
Now you will see a list of all your imported cost carriers. You can mark them inactive if you don’t need them in Moss.
The setup is now complete.
All these settings can be adjusted again under “Settings” > “Accounting”.
Your bookings will now be exported directly from Moss to MS BC together with the document images, including the audit log protocol.
