What is Card Verification?

Card Verification is a standard process used by merchants to validate your card details for recurring payments, such as subscriptions, without charging your account. This allows merchants to initiate transactions without your presence.

Card Verifications will show as transaction of 0 EUR in the Moss transactions overview.

Card Verification in the EU

In the EU, merchants can't save clear card details. They store a tokenised version of your card for added security. Occasionally, small charges may be applied and quickly reversed as part of the verification process.

Advantages of Card Verification

Card verification has benefits for both - customers and vendor.

Saving encrypted card details allows customers to

  • use their preferred payment method repeatedly

  • speed up the transaction process - no time spent entering payment details

  • use single-click payment

  • set up installed payments or recurring payments

Card Expiry and Updates

If your card expires, merchants storing or tokenising your card details can automatically update to your new card information, depending on their technology. For more about card expiry, see our article on "Expiring Cards".
