This feature is currently in beta and might not be available to you yet.
At a glance
Moss captures receipts whether they arrive as attachments or directly in the email body.
Emails without attachments are converted into PDFs and added to the Receipt Inbox.
Only documents identified as receipts or invoices are processed.
All receipts are labeled, logged, and traceable for compliance.
When you forward receipts to your Moss Receipt Inbox, Moss doesn’t just look at attachments. If the receipt is included directly in the email body, Moss will capture it too.
This functionality is supported in two ways
Receipt finder: Moss automatically scans your inbox for missing receipts and extracts the needed data.
Receipt inbox: You forward the email to your receipt inbox and Moss extracts the needed data.
⚠️ Please note: Moss cannot guarantee that auto-generated documents from email bodies meet all tax requirements. Your Finance team should review these documents carefully during the financial review process.
Configuration
This functionality is optional. Finance teams can enable or disable it in:
"Settings" > "Cards & card transactions" > in the section "Collect", by toggling 'Convert receipts in email body to PDF'.
How it works
The email contains a valid PDF or image: Moss processes the attachment as usual.
No valid attachment is found: Moss scans the email body and checks for receipts. Moss converts the email body into a PDF, keeping the original format and any embedded images. The receipt is only captured if the document is recognized as a receipt or invoice (only available for invoices for card transactions). Other types of documents won’t be captured.
Add to your inbox: Once validated, the receipt appears in your Receipt Inbox and may be automatically linked to the right card transaction.
What you’ll see
At the top of the generated document, Moss adds a clear label indicating that the receipt was created from an email body. Right below, you’ll also see a disclaimer reminding you to verify the details if the document is needed for VAT reclaim.
The receipt itself is then available in your Receipt Inbox, just like any other forwarded receipt – and the same applies for receipts captured through the Receipt Finder.
What’s the difference between Receipt Inbox and Receipt Finder?
The Moss Receipt Inbox is a centralised hub for all receipts forwarded to Moss. Each company has its own dedicated forwarding address, available here. You can forward receipts manually or add this address to your supplier’s billing settings to receive them automatically. This keeps all receipts in one place and reduces reconciliation work for Finance teams.
Moss Receipt Finder is an automation tool that fetches receipts directly from your work inbox. It scans for emails from supported merchants, extracts the receipt data, and links it to the correct transaction in Moss. This enables a fully hands-off process for expense reporting, reducing manual submission from employees and ensuring Finance teams always have complete documentation.
How this helps finance teams
Fewer missing receipts – Email-only receipts are automatically captured, reducing gaps in documentation.
Less manual effort – No need to chase employees for PDFs or screenshots when suppliers don’t send attachments.
Better compliance control – Receipts are clearly labeled, logged, and traceable, making financial reviews easier.
